Saints go 16-0 28 May 2017

The Wellington Saints have extended their unbeaten run to 16 games with a 106-95 win against the James Blond Supercity Rangers.

Despite early foul trouble, Corey Webster scored a team high 26 points, and forward Tai Wesley added 25 points and nine rebounds for the Saints who have eclipsed their best-ever regular season finish of 15-3 which they did in the 1988 and 2013 seasons.

The second quarter was the difference of the contest, as the visitors won the period 35-18 to take a 57-41 lead at halftime. The Rangers would score 54 in the second half but were unable to truly threaten the Saints double-digit advantage.

Mitch McCarron scored 26 points, Lindsay Tait registered 21 points and six assists, and Earnest Ross Jr added 17 for the Rangers who remain in third spot with an 8-6 record.

The Rangers next game will be at home this coming Thursday against the Hawks and will be desperate to finish the season strong as they will meet fellow playoff teams the SIT Zerofees Sharks and the Canterbury Rams.

Wellington now are two games away from potentially being the first team NBL team to finish the regular season unbeaten, but both games are on the road to the Taylor Hawks and Mike Pero Nelson Giants who will have nothing to lose.
