Jordan Mills hopes Saturday's career best 33-point haul for the Wellington Saints will end the courtside chatter about his worth to the team.
"I felt kind of relieved to have a game like that so I can put a lot of people's doubts to rest," said Mills, the son of Saints owner Nick Mills.
"Obviously I've been a part of the organisation my whole life and I've always had people say ‘he's only in there because he's the owner's son' . . . So getting 33 in a game might stop a bit of that. I hope so. I've always been pretty confident in my own abilities but it's always in the back of your mind."
Mills started on the bench against the Waikato Pistons but was thrust into action when import Andrew Warren suffered a nasty hand injury after seven minutes at Hamilton Boys' High School.
The 23-year-old shooting guard proceeded to knock down 11 of his 18 shots, including nine of 14 from beyond the three-point line.
