The Wellington Saints are back at the top of the table, giving the Mike Pero Nelson Giants their first loss of the season, final score 102-85.
Point guard Lindsay Tait controlled the contest with a double-double of 21 points and 14 assists, moving the defending champs to 7-1 for the season
Guard, Dion Prewster also scored 21, and off the bench Izayah Mauriohooho-Le’afa had 17 and Damien Ekenasio added 14.
It was always going to be a tough ask for the Giants, who came off a game the night before in Taranaki.
Nelson did come out strong in the first quarter to take a four point lead, but with the scores tied at 42, Wellington went on 13-0 run to end the half up 55-42.
A 29-20 third quarter from the home side put the game out of reach for Nelson who now go to 6-1.
Nelson guard McKenzie Moore led all scorers with 28, and centre Josh Duinker added 24, but collectively as a team they struggled, shooting 39% from the field.
