Webster Re-Signs with Saints 05 Mar 2014

Shooting guard Corey Webster will return for his third season with the Wellington franchise.

Webster re-joins fellow Tall Black Lindsay Tait, as they will try to recapture the form that led to them to winning a title together back in 2011.

Arguably one of the National Basketball league’s best scorers, Webster has averaged over 20 points in his two year span with the Saints, and was the highest New Zealand scorer in both 2011 and 2013

Webster will also join best friend Beny Anthony, both playing together back in 2009 and 2010 for the Harbour Heat.

"I feel Corey is the best scorer in the league, and paired with L.T and Beny, I strongly believe they could be the highest scoring trio in the competition." said Saints General Manager Fran Scholey.

The 26 year old has been one the bright sparks for the NZ Breakers in their tough season, averaging nearly 8 points in under 20 minutes per game. In the last five games Webster has seen his court time increase and has scored over double digits in all of them

The Wellington Saints have also confirmed that former point guard George Le'afa will join Shane Heal and Seth Weakly to make up the coaching staff.

After a successful playing career winning two titles with Wellington (2003 and 2011), Le'afa has had success coaching the St Pat senior team.

"Smart point guards generally make great coaches, and George will instantly have the respect of the senior players who have played with him"

Saints will finally start their season preparations this week, with Lindsay Tait and import centre Elijah Obade joining the team.
