Henry and Prewster return 15 Jan 2016

The Wellington Saints retain key players Leon Henry and Dion Prewster for the 2016 NBL season.

Both are currently playing in the Australian NBL, Henry with the Townsville Crocodiles and Dion Prewster with the Sydney Kings.

“I’m very pleased with the signings of both Leon and Dion, both are tremendous athletes and can space the floor, which is ideal with the system I want to run.” Wellington head coach Kevin Braswell.

This will be the seventh season that Henry has been with the Saints and apart from injury midway through last season, the small forward averaged 14 points and nearly seven rebounds.

Henry who is currently playing his second season with the Townsville Crocodiles played with Braswell in the 2013 Southland Sharks side that won the NBL title. The small forward was also named Finals Most Valuable Player and in his career he has won three NBL titles.

“Leon is my guy, he is a winner and I know when it comes to crunch time I can depend on him. In my first year as a head coach I need players I can trust and both Leon and Dion know what it takes to be a champion.”
Prewster was equally impressive last season averaging nearly 13.5 points on a career best 42.7% from three point range.

The former Wellington College old boy played in the ANBL as a development player for the Breakers back in the 2011 season, but after a four season absence, Prewster returned to the league with the Sydney Kings and has had started multiple times, averaging over 18 minutes per game.

“I have played with Dion back in 2012, and he has always been an amazing athlete, but since then he has improved his game tremendously, being able to consistently knock down the open shot. He is one of the best defenders in NZ and I what I love about Dion is that he has an extremely high work ethic. I can’t wait to coach him and develop his skill set even further.” said Braswell

The Saints will confirm more signings in the coming weeks in the hopes of winning title number nine.
