Saints Fall Short in High-Scoring Battle Against Airs
The Wellington Saints fought hard in a thrilling contest at TSB Arena but came up just short against the Taranaki Steelformers Airs, falling 115-110 in a fast-paced encounter that sent the game to double overtime.
The Saints started strong, setting the tone early with efficient scoring and strong rebounding. Shaun Bruce led the way with an outstanding 26-point performance, adding seven rebounds and three assists. Hyrum Harris delivered a well-rounded game, recording a double-double with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists, keeping the Saints competitive throughout, whilst import Nick Muzynski was four blocks short of a triple double with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 6 blocks.
Despite their efforts, the Airs mounted a strong second-half comeback, capitalizing on key turnovers and clutch shooting in the final minutes. The Saints' defense fought to slow down the Airs' attack, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win.
The Saints will quickly shift their focus to their next matchup on Thursday, March 20, as they hit the road to face the Nelson Giants at Trafalgar Centre. Looking to bounce back, Wellington will aim to tighten their defense and execute down the stretch in search of an important early-season victory.
