2020 Player Announcements!

Wellington Saints are delighted to announce the first two player signings for the 2020 season with Saints Veteran, current Tall Black and Sky Sport Breakers forward, Jordan Ngatai returning and keeping it Wellington local, the talented Taane Samuel. After a very successful 2019 season, the Saints are looking to defend the championship and these two amazing talents will play incremental roles in this. Head Coach Zico Coronel says:

“Jordan is instrumental to the Saints’ recent success and going forward. He is a high character man with great connection to the community. He’ll have a significant leadership role to play. On court he has underpinned countless defensive lockdowns, while providing force offensively. Re-signing Jordan is extremely pleasing."

“Taane’s upside might be as high as anyone’s in New Zealand basketball. The combination of size, athleticism, skill and basketball IQ is not found frequently. We believe coming home to Wellington, with the excellent support structures the Saints club and wider community can provide, will help Taane to progress towards reaching his potential - a delectable proposition!”

A talented athlete at only 20 years old, Samuel has represented New Zealand at age-group level, with fluidity of movement and a genuine athleticism. Taane comes off the back of playing for the Manawatu Jets in the 2019 NZNBL season and previous to that returning from a stint at De La Salle University in the Philippines. A local product out of Scots College, the Saints are thrilled to have these two players on the roster.
