Chris Tupu Joins As Assistant Coach
Big news for the 2025 campaign as The Mills Albert Saints annouce that, former Tall Black Chris Tupu has been appointed as an assistant coach for the Mills Albert Saints for the 2025 season. Tupu, affectionately known as "Toops," began his illustrious playing career with the Saints in 1989 and now returns to the club, bringing a wealth of experience both on and off the court.
During his playing days, Tupu was a strong presence in the National Basketball League, securing two championships as a player. His exceptional performance in the 1994 season with the Canterbury Rams earned him the Most Outstanding Kiwi Guard Award.
Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Tupu continued his championship pedigree by clinching an NBL title as an assistant coach. His expertise was further recognized on the international stage when he served as an assistant coach for the New Zealand Tall Blacks during their impressive top-eight finish at the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey.
Beyond the professional arena, Tupu has been instrumental in nurturing young talent. He has dedicated time to coaching at Rongotai College, where he has been pivotal in developing the next generation of players.
