Leon Henry is back in blue

Your Wellington Saints are proud to announce the return on NZNBL Veteran Leon Henry. With over 200 NZNBL games under his belt, Leon brings a wealth of knowledge and an incredible skill set along with him to the team.

“To receive the call up from Jordan & Nick Mills is always a special one for me.I have a lot of respect for the Mills family & what they have done for the me & the game in Wellington.

This will be Henry's 9th season with the club, making him familiar with the club and how they operate. "They are true pioneers of putting basketball on the map for Wellington. So to get asked if I wanted to come out of retirement to come be amongst the franchise again is always an honour because “Saints” have always had a special place in my heart. The culture & success they have built is something I was always fond of as they treat their players with a lot of love & respect. Once you buy into their system as a player it keeps you focused on that matter at hand which is perfecting your game for the betterment of the team, the ultimate focus."

Head Coach Zico Coronel says of the signing "We’re continually pursuing improvement as a club, whether that be internally by enhancing the psychological, physiological, technical or tactical ability of our current players, or by enhancing the roster with additional signings. When the opportunity to add a proven veteran and six-time champion (five with the Saints) Leon Henry arose it was a no brainer."

"Leon offers toughness, length, rebounding, perimeter shooting and a horde of experience to our group, among many other attributes. We’re thrilled to welcome a long term member of the Saints’ Family back to the playing group."

Leon will be making his return this Sunday June 13th as the team take on the Manawatu Jets at TSB Arena! "I look forward to another venture with the Saints in year 18 for me in the NZNBL. I will also look forward to looking up at the championship banners again at our home court as I was blessed to be apart of 5 of those and keep building towards our main goal for 2021 by the end of the season”.
